In addition to an improved entrance to the below-grade commuter rail station, the conceptual design study proposes several retail kiosks, cafes and a greenmarket to help animate the public space while financially supporting the maintenance and programming efforts of a new not-for-profit organization that will manage the Plaza. The study introduces new environmental elements such as wind turbines, solar panels and stormwater swales, and maximizes the amount of new green space, creating a verdant gateway to this vibrant Bronx plaza.
