As part of a larger Downtown activation initiative, the City of Rogers, Arkansas commissioned WXY to redevelop five blocks of an existing alleyway system within the Historic Downtown into a pedestrian-oriented, limited-vehicle space. In order to cultivate a plan that was aligned with community needs, WXY spent several months conducting interviews with key stakeholders and businesses along the alleyway.

Key to unlocking the alleyway as a pedestrian-friendly destination was rethinking how waste management, servicing, and deliveries worked. Balancing the desire to create a walkable district with the servicing needs of the alley, WXY explored means to reduce the number of dumpsters and trucks blocking walkways, and replace them with consolidated waste management zones, timed deliveries, and freight management areas.

The Alleyway project will transform the area into an arts-focused neighborhood and pedestrian network. Located at the heart of Downtown Rogers, the project will create more social space, spur economic development, and create a memorable destination for residents and visitors alike.
