At WXY, design is more than what we do; it’s how we think. We bring a design lens to every challenge, whether it’s shaping policy, planning communities, or creating architecture that responds to people and place. Every project is exploration, not repetition. We start by asking questions, uncovering deeper problems, and designing unpredictable solutions.
Claire Weisz, FAIA, and Mark Yoes, FAIA, founded WXY in 1998. Partners Layng Pew, AIA, and Adam Lubinsky, PhD, AICP, joined them in 2006 and 2011, respectively.
WXY is a certified Women Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) in many states and cities around the United States. Our staff are certified in LEED, WELL-healthy buildings, and WEDG waterfront design.
At WXY, we believe design begins with listening. Before a form takes shape and before a policy is drafted or a plan is drawn, we ask questions not to validate assumptions but to uncover what’s next. Every project starts with an open question. The answers emerge through dialogue, iteration, and collective insight rather than from a predetermined vision.
We work across scales and disciplines—architecture, planning, policy, urban design, graphic design, and strategy—because separation doesn’t lead to stronger results. A shared mindset or curiosity drives our work.
We see design as a way of thinking, a tool for discovery, as much as a method for making. Architects collaborate with analysts, planners, and community engagement specialists. These overlaps are where the most meaningful ideas emerge. A policy initiative might inform a streetscape strategy. A civic building can serve as both infrastructure and a gathering space. We are drawn to the points where systems and experiences intersect, aiming to make the complex legible and the every day more generous for everyone.
What we design, in the broadest sense, are relationships. Between people and place. Between process and result. Between aspiration and constraint. We build frameworks that adapt and evolve, supporting decision-making and leaving room for discovery, resilience, and, dare we say, joy.
This is our approach. Open, grounded in context, and guided by the belief that design helps us see the possibilities of working together.
