The electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in New York State has seen steadily growing, but a major gap remains in the provision of adequate charging infrastructure to overcome the “range anxiety” associated with potential EV ownership.

 As part of a NYSERDA-funded study, WXY designed a sustainable weekend tourism model that promotes electric vehicle usage through comprehensive tourism packages in the Hudson Valley and Catskills region, and devoted partnerships with electric car rental companies.

WXY designed and developed a “green tourism” mobile application that provides curated content and exclusive deals promoting Upstate NY cultural destinations and lodging options, while also allowing users to map routes and track proximity to electric vehicle charge points.

The EV Tourism program and app were designed to drive Upstate economic development by bringing sustainability-focused, non-car-owning weekend visitors from New York City to the Hudson Valley region. Simultaneously, the program promotes the expansion of EV charging infrastructure in order to meet growing driver demand.
