The technology and creative sectors are among the fastest growing industries in the United States, and are increasingly clustered in dense, urban environments. In response to the continued growth of tech employment in the Downtown Brooklyn area, The Brooklyn Tech Triangle Coalition, consisting of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, and the DUMBO Improvement District, identified the need to create a roadmap for future growth in the area. 

The Brooklyn Tech Triangle Plan employed an innovative approach to real estate and land use, in order to ensure an affordable supply of space for new tech firms; workforce development needs, to ensure that new firms are able to draw from the local labor force; infrastructure needs, to create strong public transit and utility connections; and placemaking, to create an attractive and dynamic environment for the growing tech ecosystem.

Coordination with multiple stakeholders groups underpinned the development of this plan.

The strategic plan focuses on actionable recommendations for implementation by both the public and private sectors, to nurture the growth of creative industries within the Tech Triangle while maximizing the employment benefits for local residents. The plan included a study of seven strategic development sites, and a new mixed-use zoning district proposal.
