Job Summary

WXY is looking for an analyst who can support a wide range of ongoing urban planning and design projects, including school boundary modeling, demographic analysis, zoning, master planning, community engagement, economic development, resiliency, and mobility. The role will require performing research, data analysis, and developing visual materials including maps and graphics for presentations and reports. In addition, the analyst will support discussions related to the studio’s ongoing business initiatives as necessary. Strong Python skills are critical to this role, and experience using desktop GIS software is preferred.

 

Responsibilities

  • Obtain, document, and clean data from a variety of open and proprietary sources using Python.
  • Conduct reproducible spatial analysis using the spatial python stack (pandas / geopandas, postgis, rasterio, matplotlib, osmnx) to generate production-ready insights and graphic materials.
  • Adhere to best practices in a collaborative coding environment using git and Github and participate in code reviews.
  • Contribute problem-solving and representational skills across diverse planning and design projects.


Qualifications

  • Graduate or undergraduate degree in urban and regional planning, geography, economics, computer science, data science, information science, policy and education.
  • Experience and interest in school boundary modeling and facility planning, community-based planning, virtual engagement, transportation planning, with an emphasis on electrification and shared mobility.
  • Strong data, analytical research, and mapping (ArcMap or QGIS) skills.
  • Fluency in Python, particularly with data science packages (pandas, geopandas, numpy, networkx, matplotlib, scipy).
  • Fluency with Adobe CC tools (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary, with the ability to develop and share recommendations succinctly and accurately.
  • Well-organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, able to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously and to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Solutions oriented, problem solver, with the ability to drive decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative work style, ability to partner effectively with leaders and staff at all levels of the organization across multiple teams.
  • Knowledge of NYC and Washington, D.C. regions preferred.
  • Experience using Github or other version-control frameworks for collaborative analytical or software development projects preferred.
  • Experience using Mapbox/Maplibre, Leaflet, React/Next.js, and web development in general is preferred, but not required.

 

This is an in-person, full-time salaried position with benefits such as Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and Short-Term Disability insurance, 401(k), qualified transportation programs through Citi Bike, an annual professional development stipend, bonuses for earning professional licensure/accreditation, among many more. The salary range for this position is $65,000-85,000, commensurate with experience.
