Empire State Development (ESD) and Rochester Mayor Malik Evans unveiled the design concept for the Aqueduct Reimagined project, the centerpiece of the ROC the Riverway initiative. WXY and Urban AC, with local engineers Colliers Engineering & Design, are leading the transformation of the Broad Street Bridge into an iconic downtown park highlighting Rochester’s cultural history, including "The Subway" and its notable graffiti. By removing the upper deck of the Broad Street Bridge, the project will expose the historic Erie Canal Aqueduct and create pedestrian and bicycle connections along and across the Genesee River, transforming the former canal and subway structure into a vibrant public space at the heart of downtown Rochester.
