The Department of Design and Construction announced yesterday that construction has begun on WXY’s pedestrian-friendly revamp of Astor Place and Cooper Square. The design calls for additional pedestrian plazas and wider sidewalks, an improved drainage system, and enhanced seating, lighting and plantings. Construction is expected to be completed by 2015.
