The first phase of the 4.7 mile project to reconstruct the boardwalk after Hurricane Sandy was unveiled on Friday. NYC Department of Parks and Recreation and the Economic Development Corporation commissioned WXY, CH2M, Pentagram, RBA Group and Skanska to develop the reconstruction of the boardwalks, which has been under construction for over a year. The result of the effort, strengthened by public input, has brought back this iconic destination and neighborhood promenade of Queens just in time for the summer. The full scope of work included the demolition of the existing structure, the design and construction of the new boardwalk structure, its ammenities and access structuress, a sand-retaining wall and planting and stabilizing of the USACE sand dune.
